Executive Director Barbara MacKinnon Receives Award


On Thursday, May 17th, 2012,Barbara MacKinnon was awarded the 2012 United Way Ambassador's Award for reaching out to partners in the community and devoting great time and effort to making a difference in Ottawa. As a Community Builder Ambassador, Barbara's name will be officially inscribed on the Wall of Inspiration located at City Hall.

For 26 years, Barbara has been a valued volunteer and ambassador for United Way. As Executive Director of the Children's Aid Society of Ottawa, she has always held a passion for supporting the community's most vulnerable populations, and has worked tirelessly to bring about the vision of an overarching framework for all children and youth in Ottawa. Barbara has been active over the years volunteering on a number of community boards and initiatives. To name a few, Barbara has been on the United Way Allocations Committee, the Board of Directors of Crime Prevention Ottawa and on the Council of Partners of Success by Six. She is currently the chair of Ottawa Child and Youth Initiative - Growing Up Great Council of Partners and a volunteer on the United Way's Impact and Review committee. Barbara began volunteering with the United Way in 1986, and has since acted as leader, advisor, and guide helping the UW see through its evolution and growth.
